Releasing An Animal From A Cage Of Pain:Thanks to Horizon Palliative Vets

If there is one thing that broke me as a veterinarian, it was to hear an animal verbalising pain-that just shatters me, so nothing can make my vet heart soar more than to see an animal freed from a cage of pain. It was an absolute pleasure spending time with our dedicated veterinary colleagues at Horizon Palliative Vets. Their vet team is uncompromising in its approach to relieve pain and distress in their  veterinary patients.  Additionally, much respect to their team also for the time and effort they put into our training webinars  and into completing additional educational certification. All of that energy and focus can be clearly seen in the speed with which they have implemented laser/PBMt into their daily clinical case load.

A case of Cellulitis and Prolonged Inappetance in an 8 yr old Boxer.
March 9th: Ruby began hypersalivating and refusing food.
March 10th: A sublingual abscess under her tongue was drained under GA.
Some hours later, a dramatic Cellulitis and bilateral ventral swelling under her chin and down one side of her neck erupts.
March 13th-14th: Ruby finally begins to respond to an antibiotic switch, but remains inappetant, drooling and regurgitating and with considerable jaw and neck tissue swelling still persisting.
March 14th: Ruby sent home to see if she will eat and sleep better at home, There is still significant distending and distressing swelling of ventral chin and neck.
March 15th: Afternoon of; With Ruby still inappetant, uncomfortable and drooling copious string of smelly saliva, a single session of PBMt is administered.
A couple of hours later, Ruby expresses interest in food and eats some morsels of kangaroo mince.
Following a deep restful sleep, Ruby awakens looking for more food and eat small amounts regularly over the next 24 hours.
A second PBMt session,12 hours from the first session, now administered.
March 16th: Morning of; after a restful night, Ruby awakens with a much less swollen neck and lower jaw.
Another PBMt session applied, 24hours from the previous session.
March 17th : Ruby continues to improve and by her recheck 4 days later, Ruby is back to her normal self.
The correct antibiotics saved Ruby’s life, but the addition of PBMt accelerated her recovery.
An inappetant, exhausted, regurgitating older animal is impaired in their ability to fight illness and infection.
Adjunctive PBMt supported Ruby’s journey to a faster and successful outcome from her illnes

After another wonderfully successful Vet Expo conference last month, we are now off to the Northern Rivers District 25/11-5/12 to deliver machines to 5 new clients along the way.
